Farmers Market bust in Bellevue

By Izzy Marvin

Today was full of surprises! With this outreach work it is important to be flexible and adaptive because not all things go as planed.

I was so excited to work at the Bellevue Farmers market and was eager to make the journey. After I arrived I was told I was unable to have a station anywhere near the farmers market, so disappointing!

Since my plan had fallen through I had to think on my feet since it took me an hour to get to my destination! Since I am familiar with the Bellevue area because of previous outreach years I headed to a new area closer to Bellevue Square. Once I arrived I asked a few stores if I could set up a table outside of their store to give out free literature but I was told no repeatedly.

After this I decided it would be best to partake in “OG” Monitor outreach. I distributed The Monitor to many stores and restaurants. Overall the businesses I entered were decently receptive to receiving free sample copies of The Monitor but they did not want any gift subscriptions. Through my years of experience I have noticed that higher end shops and restaurants are less likely to accept gift subscriptions but are willing to take a few sample copies.

Even though today did not go as planned I am happy that I was able to adapt to the changes that needed to be made as well as plan for future farmers market outreach days.
