Discovering Mount Vernon: Outreach in a cute city

By Lusho Hambiliki

When I heard that we were going to mount Vernon, I imagined we were heading to an actual mountain. I was surprised to find out that it is in fact a city! Our journey began with my teammate, Cindy Obi-Njoku and I riding up listening to the Bible lesson. The serene trip created a calm and peaceful atmosphere for the rest of the day by providing breathtaking views of Washington. We drove for approximately an hour before arriving in Mount Vernon and stopping at the Christian Science Reading Room.

Jane Burns, Don Munro, and Susan Rowe, Members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Mount Vernon, greeted us warmly, and we had great conversation for a few minutes.

We began to distribute the Christian Science Monitor Weekly and considering the size of the place we were at, we were happy with the response we got. We were able to distribute all sample copies and give out five free gift subscriptions.

We went back to the reading room to discuss our experience and before we headed out, Don offered to pay for our lunch!

Mount Vernon may not have been an actual mountain, but its beauty and the amazing things we accomplished there made it a genuinely unforgettable experience. I’m so grateful for all the people I meet along the way and I can’t wait to get to meet more!
