Columbia City: untidy but receptive
By Cindy Obi-Njoku
Hello dear reader, Cindy here. On the Tuesday the 11th of June, Lusho, Izzy and I went to Columbia City.
On getting there, I noticed that the neighborhood (or at least the parts we visited) was untidy in comparison with most of the other neighborhoods we had been to, and it piqued my curiosity, how much of a contrast there was.
The cleanliness of the neighborhood did not stop it from housing lots of establishment. However, when we arrived in the district to distribute copies of The Christian Science Monitor Weekly around 11:30am, we soon came to realize that many establishments in this district did not open until around 3pm — around the time we would be done for the day. Despite this turn of events, we worked with the establishments available, and we were able to get four subscriptions in total. In my opinion, the receptivity here was above average.
My highlight for the day is that when we were about to go home, we saw a man holding a copy of the Monitor about to get on the same bus with us. Seeing this fired up the zeal within me to want to keep working so that other people can be interested in the magazine too. On that same bus, Lusho made a Canadian friend, and it was fun listening to their interaction.
