Farmer’s Market Pilot Project
By Izzy Marvin
Hello everyone! I have a very exciting announcement! As my work here in Seattle has progressed I have reached a point where I desire to expand the outreach work we do. As a result, I have developed a new outreach project that will run concurrently with the “Compass the City” Outreach Project. This new project is called, Compass the Farmers Markets! This new project has been developed with the same idea of outreach work with a twist. Everyday of the week I will hold a stand at a different farmers market.
The list of markets I am considering going to include:
Ballard, Bellevue, Burien, Capitol Hill, Crossroads, Des Moines, Fremont, Kenmore, Kirkland, Phinney, Queen Anne, Redmond, University District, and Wallingford
At each location I will display recent copies of The Christian Science Monitor Weekly and engage in conversation with the community and introduce or reintroduce the significance of this news magazine. This new project is a great addition to the “OG” outreach project because I will be able to reach more individuals rather than businesses and have time to engage in, in depth conversation.
Today, Saturday June 8th, was the first of many days for this new project. Today was full of great experiences. Many people came up to my table today eager to learn and read The Monitor. I noticed a large majority of individuals that approached me were young adults who had never heard of this news magazine before but admired the values it holds. In addition to the large number of young adults, there were older individuals who approached me and discussed how they recognized The Monitor and how popular it used to be and were pleased it was being advertised.
My favorite part about working at the farmers markets is the love, joy, and receptivity every individual expresses. I will give updates periodically on the progress I make at the markets I attend, so stay tuned! I hope you are as excited as I am for this new outreach project!
