Another great day at Renton Farmers Market
By Izzy Marvin
Hello everyone, today, Tuesday July 16th, I attended the Renton Farmers market. The journey today was hectic. I took three buses from the University District to Renton. The last bus I took was twenty minutes late but I finally got on and arrived at the market.
Once I got set up at the market two women approached me. One woman was blind and the other was her assistant. I offered them a sample copy and they took 2 copies with no questions asked.
Right after this I asked a couple of people walking by if they’d like a sample copy and one said no but one a little further away said yes. Once he approached me he started telling me how Christian Science is wrong and I then assured him that this is a non religious news magazine. He then opened a sample copy and read who published the magazines and told me I was lying about it not being religious. I told him nicely that it has won seven Pulitzer Prizes, and if he would like he could still take a copy and read a little bit of it to see it is not religious content. He told me that I was trying to trick him into reading propaganda and started drilling me on who I worked for, who was paying me, and if I was a Christian Scientist. I told him I was not comfortable answering those questions. The man did not end up taking a sample copy but no further issues occurred with him and I am grateful for that.
A bit later a man was exiting the market and I offered him a sample copy and he said he has this at home but he ended up taking 1 sample copy of the older edition from March to read on the way home! A little later a lady was walking into the market and I offered her a sample copy and she said on the way out she’ll grab one. Typically when someone says this they do not end up taking a copy but she came back! She took 2 copies of The Monitor, including an old edition from march. Later on in the day, 3 other men grabbed one sample copy each, a father and son grab 1 sample copy, an older mother and daughter grabbed 1 copy, 2 older women each grabbed one sample copy, a group of college age boys who grabbed 2 copies, and 1 women who took the March edition because her birthday was in March.
Overall today I was able to give out 15 sample copies! Renton is always a great place for distribution!
