West Seattle: A Worthy Second Chance

By Cindy Obi-Njoku

Hello, dear reader. On Tuesday the 18th of June, Lusho and I went to West Seattle, again! This time however, we took the advice of Ms. Candace Rosovsky. She had read our previous blog on the area, was disappointed with our experience with lack of receptivity at Alki beach and suggested that we go to the heart of the neighbourhood if we hoped to find more receptivity. And so, we did. We came straight to California Avenue and Alaska Street, and she was right. This place was booming with establishments.

Prior to stepping out, we did something different for our morning metaphysical inspiration. Instead of reading The Sermon on the Mount, we read Cindy Safronoff’s “Judge Not” creed. It was a lovely text, and this set the tone for my day.

After our long journey, our first encounter was at a Sushi place. We went in with our usual introduction and I was thrown aback by the sheer receptivity of the woman at the front desk. When I asked her where she would like the copies placed, she gestured to an open table and even asked me to drop more copies, remarking that “many people will want to read news magazines”. She agreed to a gift subscription and when we were about to leave, we shook hands, and she offered that I stay indoors for a bit to warm my hands up as they were too cold. This entire interaction had me smiling from ear to ear and I left her shop feeling great.

All in all, it was a beautiful day and we got six subscriptions in total. Thank you for your advice Ms. Rosovsky!
