Edmonds: The Whimsical One

By Cindy Obi-Njoku

Hello, dear reader. On Wednesday, the 26 th of June, Lusho and I set off to Edmonds. It took us about an hour and a half to get there starting with a train and then two interconnecting buses. I noticed that the buses in this area were much more comfortable and tidier than in the other cities we visited. Once we got to Edmonds, we went to their Christian Science Reading Room where we were met by Peter Zarich.

We already knew of Peter as the Treasurer at Christian Science Literature Joint Distribution, but this was our first time meeting him in person. He warmly welcomed us and wished us well on our adventure.

Edmonds is a pretty city. It houses a lot of art shops, antique stores, and clothing shops (every window shopper’s dream). The people here were really receptive to receiving copies, but not as much to subscriptions mainly because many of the already had subscriptions and a few of them opined that they could get copies when they wanted (for this I assume they meant from the Reading Room).

We had a lunch break at Rory’s of Edmonds. The restaurant was cosy, but when I ordered their fish tacos, and I was disappointed by the taste, the fish being too oily and bland. After lunch, we continued working and when we were done, we had one subscription in total.

When we were done with work, we returned to the reading room where we were welcomed by Marjorie and Don. They were so lovely and expressed gratitude for our work. By 5:30 we set with Marjorie and Peter for dinner at Caravan Kebab, Edmonds. Lusho and I ordered their Chicken Tandoori, and it was tasteful. The kind waitress also offered us tasty rice pudding on the house.

After dinner, Marjorie drove my partner and I to church at Edmonds. It was a beautiful church, and the reading was lovely. The part that resonated with me a lot was the bit from Matthew 6 about the fact that we need not worry for God knows what we need before we ask. During the last hymn the piano was disconnected halfway through, and it was a wholesome moment because we were all giggling and kept on singing. After church we were introduced to other church members, and they were lovely.

Peter drove us back home and we got to rest after a long day.
