At the entrance to Wallingford Farmers Market

By Izzy Marvin

Hello all, I attended the Wallingford farmers market today, Wednesday June 26. I sat in a new spot that was located at the entrance of the market!

It was a pretty slow day in terms of receptivity. As the evening progressed more children and families came to get food and play in the park. Today was a bit more of a difficult day. I spoke to many people but not many people wanted free sample copies. I kept hearing “no”.

The first man that accepted a sample copy actually wanted two. He told me he lives next door and comes pretty much every week. He asked if I will be here next week and I told him yes. He said that he wanted to read the two editions he grabbed before signing up in order to ensure it is the same quality news he used to read as he was growing up. He seemed super excited about receiving the sample copies and looked forward to signing up for a gift subscription.

Another man came along a little later saying he subscribes to the emails and took a sample copy and signed up for a gift subscription!! A little later on in the day I asked this man if he wanted a sample copy and he said no but he walked by my station 4 times so on the 5th time I asked again and he took a sample copy! A little bit later on a young girl came up and grabbed a sample copy of the monitor. Through the day I was able to give out 5 sample copies, one gift subscription, and one possible future gift subscription.

As the day started to conclude it started raining and so many people left the market! I am grateful the rain held off throughout the day. I am looking forward to the next Wallingford market next week!!
