2 Reports from Phinney Ridge Farmers Market
Friday June 14, 2024:
Hello! Today I attended the Phinney Farmers Market for the first time!
Once I arrived at the market I was given two options of where I can place my station. This was great to hear because if one spot is not available I will still have a spot! Today I was stationed at one of the two entrances. I was placed in a covered walkway that was upstairs and led to the farmers market downstairs. I was so grateful for this space because it was a very rainy day so I was able to stay dry!
Today was not a very busy day due to the stormy weather. Through the day I had a couple of great conversations. My favorite conversation was with a man that said he used to help an elderly woman who was a Christian Scientist. She lived to be 103 years old and her husband to be 97 years old. The man I spoke to said he loved the values of Christian Science and continuously said “it's a great religion”.
I was able to give out 5 sample copies today of The Christian Science Monitor Weekly, which is lower than usual but I am optimistic for upcoming market days!
Friday June 21, 2024:
Hello! Today I attended the Phinney Farmers Market. When I first arrived at the market I checked inside of the Phinney Neighborhood Association because I placed a few Monitors inside last week. All of the magazines were gone so I placed a few more!
Today I placed my station in a different location than last time. This time I was in between one entrance of the farmers market and the courtyard where people ate and hung out. I wanted to try this location to see if I would have more opportunity to speak to more people.
In addition to the few copies I left in the community center, I was able to give out 6 sample copies of The Monitor. I gave them to a Spanish teacher who worked in the community center, a senior lady who was wearing the most beautiful colorful dress, a man who looked like my grandfather, a college age female, and two families that sat in the courtyard to eat. In addition to these interactions, I spoke to more people in this location compared to where I was posted last time so I think I will secure this spot again!
