Tuning in to TMC Annual Mtg
By Bella Sison
On Monday, June 5, Izzy and I gathered with the members and guests of Third Church Seattle to watch the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church. It was streamed live online so that Christian Scientists around the world could participate. For about two hours, we listened to church workers and other Christian Scientists discuss healings, church activities, and other inspiring topics. We were also able to participate in the hymns they sang during the service. I have watched past annual meetings, but this was Izzy's first time, and she loved it!
One thing I appreciated most about the meeting was how palpable the love and appreciation from the speakers were. The Board of Directors, Treasurer, Clerk, and other workers all spoke about the church with such affection. They also addressed the audience (including the global audience participating online) with such care and appreciation. I could tell how much they loved Christian Science and were happy to represent it to the global congregation.
I also really loved hearing from Christian Scientists of different backgrounds. There was lots of representation from around the world, including the UK Summit, where they showed how many UK Christian Scientists were able to join together and attend spiritual lectures and discussions. There were contributions from people who had come into Christian Science recently, as well as young people who have grown up in the church. As someone who has often been in small Sunday Schools growing up, it is always especially inspiring to see how other Christian Science youth are engaging in the church. Izzy even knew some of the young people featured from Principia College! Overall, this was a wonderful meeting that gave us all a chance to keep up with The Mother Church and the global congregation. We had a great time!
