A day full of receptivity at Queen Anne Farmers Market
By Izzy Marvin
Hello! Today, Thursday July 18th, I was at the Queen Anne farmers market.
Today started off with a bang. Within the first 20 minutes of setting up a man approached me without me saying anything to him. He just looked at the magazines, grabbed one, and said thank you and walked away.
Right after this another man approached me and I offered him a sample copy and he said yes. Before he turned away to leave he said that he thought my hat said “CIA” but it really said “CA” as in California. I thought this was a funny interaction.
A bit later, a mother with 4 children approached me after leaving the frozen yogurt store that is right by where I was stationed. She said she had heard of The Monitor but had never read it. They grabbed 3 copies total! After this a woman was walking by and I offered her a sample copy. At first she didn’t seem interested then she said “Oh! The Christian Science Monitor!” She told me that she used to subscribe but hasn’t in a few years. She grabbed a sample copy and signed up for a gift subscription! This woman was the sweetest and also told me about stories she used to read about in The Monitor.
After this a grandfather and his three granddaughters walked right to my table after leaving the frozen yogurt store and all he said was “I’ll take this one”. I told him that if he is interested after reading he can sign up for a gift subscription and he said he might!
Later, two college age girls walking into the frozen yogurt store each grabbed a copy of The Monitor! There was no conversation other than us telling each other to have a good day.
Near the end of the day, there were two friends and the cutest golden retriever that came up and had a conversation with me about how my day was going, how beautiful the weather has been, as well as asking about the sample copies I was giving out. They each took a sample copy.
In total today I was able to give out 11 sample copies and one gift subscription! It was a great day at the Queen Anne Market that was full of receptivity and very minimal negativity!
