When we set sail for Port Townsend
By Izzy Marvin
Cindy and Izzy had another day of outreach together, this time they ventured to Port Townsend! On Tuesday, July 11, Cindy and Izzy got an early start to the day and drove onto a Washington State Ferry in Edmonds, took the boat across Puget Sound to Kingston on the Olympic Peninsula.

After arriving in Kingston, they then drove about an hour north to Port Townsend, a Victorian seaport town known for building and restoring wooden sailboats boats.
Once the ladies arrived in Port Townsend, they had a little bit of extra time, so they drove to the lighthouse and saw the gorgeous views from the waterfront. Izzy LOVED this and thought it was a great way to start the day.
After this, Cindy and Izzy met up with one of the church members at the Christian Science Society in Port Townsend, Susan Miller, at her real estate office directly across the street from the Port Townsend ferry dock.
Cindy and Izzy headed off to start outreach work and started off with a bang. The first place they went into was excited to receive a gift subscription and gave the ladies free lunch!
An amazing encounter Cindy and Izzy had was at hotel lobby. The woman working at the front desk spoke about how in the past there used to be a Christian Science Reading Room she used to go there and get copies of The Christian Science Monitor. She missed being able to do that. She was very happy to accept a free gift subscription.
About 150 free sample copies were distributed in Port Townsend. Overall Port Townsend is a perfect example of the ideal place for outreach work and receiving gift subscriptions because each store is close together and there is a large variety of different businesses. These businesses are also generally locally owned independent businesses, so they are more willing to accept gift subscriptions since they do not have strict corporate laws on the material they are allowed to present to their customers.
Cindy Safronoff had this to add to the report:
On the way out of town, we stopped by the Port Townsend church, a sweet little log cabin style chapel. They have lovely landscaping and a garden area in the back. Church member Jo happened to be in the garden picking flowers. We had a brief friendly exchange with Jo, then headed off the catch the ferry back to Edmonds. It was an all-around great day in Port Townsend!
