Finding receptivity nearby: Eastlake & Madison Park
by Izzy Marvin
Izzy was assisted by Jason Safronoff on Friday, July 7. Jason was very excited to assist with this outreach project and learn about how the project worked. The two worked close to the field office in the university district. They started the day by visiting Eastlake, a commercial street the runs along the east side of Lake Union, just north of downtown Seattle.
At first Eastlake did not seem like the best place for distribution because many places were spread out and some places were shut down or closed. However, Izzy and Jason were pleasantly surprised by every place they went into. They were very excited to receive sample copies of The Christian Science Monitor Weekly and even to get subscriptions!
Since there weren’t that many places in Eastlake, there was still more time in the day, so the two headed to Madison Park, an upscale commercial district by the shores of Lake Washington. Cindy was able to drive the two over, and Izzy was able to grab extra sample copies of the Monitor.
Madison Park was also small, but overall receptive to receiving sample copies. Madison Park had many great drop-off locations due to the large amount of magazine holders around the little town. About 150 sample copies were given out total that day.
An awesome experience Izzy and Jason had was when they went into a salon in Madison Park. Izzy asked if they would be interested in receiving a few free sample copies of The Christian Science Monitor Weekly, and the lady working there was very excited and curious about what the Monitor was all about. She said that she would look it over and scan the QR code if she decided she wanted a subscription. Thank you so much to Jason for helping Izzy out!
