New Literature Distribution box in Bothell
We have a new way to distribute literature! Our Bothell office now has a “Little Free Library” outside it. Passers-by on the sidewalk can freely take from a variety of used books and other items by just opening the little door on the box. These outside book boxes have been a popular new trend world-wide, and lately the Christian Science church community has started to catch on. We thought we’d give it a try.
Our box was purchased from Little Free Library, the nonprofit organization that launched this book sharing movement — but we won’t register our box as an official “Little Free Library” in their system, because we don’t want to follow their rules. We only want to have literature from the Christian Science Publishing Society in our box, so their “take a book, share a book” philosophy doesn’t quite work for us, but we can still use their box for distribution of CSPS books. We chose the Two Story Modern model. The total cost with all parts of the kit, shipping, taxes, etc came to about $550. All we had to do was put some finish on the wood, put a big metal screw in the ground (the “no dig” option), attach the post, then nail the box to the top of the post. The whole installation took about 20 minutes.

We wanted to put a wide variety of used items from the Christian Science Publishing Society in the box. We’ll be watching carefully to see what people take. Over time we’ll get a sense of what items are most appealing to people. Here’s what we put in the box:
