Making a splash in Sequim!

By Izzy Marvin

Thursday, July 27, was Izzy’s last outreach day out of her 10 weeks working in Seattle this summer. That day she visited Sequim for the first time, accompanied again by Jake Lowe, who often visits Sequim, so he knows the area and the local church members well. The day started off with a drive to the Edmonds ferry dock. They drove onto the Washington State Ferry to Kingston.

After the ferry landed in Kingston, they drove an hour on winding roads through forests to Sequim, a small town in a rural area on the north side of the Olympic Peninsula, just off US Highway 101.

Outreach started off very well because many of the businesses were receptive to receiving sample copies of The Christian Science Monitor Weekly. A few of the people the two spoke to recognized the name “Christian Science Monitor” and were very grateful to receive sample copies of the Weekly magazine and some gift subscriptions. Within the FIRST HOUR Izzy and Jake placed four gift subscriptions!!! In the entire day five gift subscriptions were placed.

Izzy and Jake also visited the Christian Science Reading Room in Sequim. There they met Patti Paul and Judy Johnston.

All four had a great conversation and Judy surprised Izzy and Jake with a snack basket, which was perfect and appreciated since the two were very hungry! Izzy and Jake went to a local fish restaurant and got fish and chips that were so tasty. After lunch, Izzy and Jake went to a lavender farm which Izzy loved.

Since it was Izzy's last outreach day, she was glad to be able to have a little extra fun. She and Jake visited Greg Munro at his beach house! They jumped into Sequim Bay for a swim — even though the water was FREEZING!

Then they swam in the pool and warmed up in the hot tub. After the fun concluded, it was time for Izzy and Jake to head back home to Seattle.

Overall, it was an amazing last outreach day both in the success of distribution of the Monitor, placing gift subscriptions, and fun! Thank you so much to Jake for taking the time out of your busy schedule to work with Izzy.
