Across the water to Bremerton & Port Orchard

By Izzy Marvin

On Friday, July 21, Izzy Marvin took a solo ride on a Washington State Ferry from the Coleman Dock in downtown Seattle across Puget Sound to Bremerton. The largest city on the Kitsap Peninsula, Bremerton is a naval town, home of a Navy base and shipyard, and also home to First Church of Christ, Scientist, Bremerton. There she met up with  Rex-Zane Rudee, a member of the Bremerton Christian Science church, and Chris Lane, a recent graduate of the Bremerton Sunday School.

In the morning Izzy worked with Chris, who volunteered to help. Since Chris knew Bremerton well, he gave useful tips on the best locations to visit to give out free sample copies of The Christian Science Monitor Weekly and offer gift subscriptions.

All of the businesses in Bremerton were open to receiving sample copies of the Monitor Weekly, and some said they were going to scan the QR code later to receive a free subscription. Izzy enjoyed the opportunity of working with a fellow Christian Scientist that was her age, training him on how to do outreach work, as well as sharing some background about the “Compass the City” outreach project.

In the afternoon Izzy worked with Rex. Rex drove them around to the other side of Sinclare Inlet to the smaller town of Port Orchard.

The businesses in Port Orchard were excited to receive free sample copies and one accepted a free gift subscription.

Thank you so much to Chris and Rex for supporting the project!
