First day of training, with a walk up “The Ave”

By Cindy Obi-Njoku

Hello, Cindy here. I just finished my first day of work for the Christian Science Literature Joint Distribution Committee and it was great.

In the morning, I left to work with Izzy and Lusho and we arrived at the office at around 8:57am. There we met Cindy Safronoff our administrator and she was happy to see us in early. We started our day off signing paperwork concerning our (Lusho and I) employment status as international students and that went well. After that Cindy gave us a summary of the origin of the Joint and right after, we were given a debrief by Izzy on the activities of the day and we went right into them. The next activity was figuring out our goals with regards to outreach, in-reach, organization and personal. When that was sorted out, we talked more about the project and before going for lunch, we wrote a blog post about ourselves in relation to the internship.

We went for lunch by 12pm and came back to the office around 1pm. When we got back, we put “free sample” stickers on the monitor copies before taking them out for outreach around the University District.

We took turns presenting the Monitor at establishments and we got “nos” in two of them but in the others, they were fine with us leaving behind copies of The Monitor and we got two establishments that were fine with getting free subscriptions. When we came back to the office, we discussed our experience.

At this point the last two items on the list were putting stickers on copies of the Monitor for the week, and finally writing a blog post for a recap of the days events. Lusho and I put stickers on more than 250 copies of The Monitor and arranged them to prepare for the week and right after we started writing our blog posts (this text) which is due by 6pm.

All in all, today went well and I cannot wait to see how the other days play out.
