Bremerton - Port Orchard: The Calmest Ones
By Cindy Obi-Njoku
Hello, dear reader. On Tuesday, the 25 th of June, Lusho and I set off on our journey to Bremerton. The weather seemed promising as we made our way on a train to the Seattle Ferry Terminal for a ferry ride to our destination. I have so far found our ferry rides therapeutic as I enjoy looking at the water, therapeutic enough that I took a well-deserved reinvigorating nap before our arrival. When we got to the ferry dock in Bremerton, we were welcomed by Chris Lane from the Bremerton Christian Science Church. He was to be our host for the day.
Chris drove us to the reading room in Bremerton and gave us a tour of the Church and Sunday School. He patiently guided us around the city on our search for establishments and would suggest prospective places for us to distribute copies. During our tour, I observed that the city had a unique calmness to it. Unlike the other places we had visited on sunny days, there were no massive throngs of people seemingly yearning to sunbathe. At first, I thought it might have had something to do with the population density of the area but after a bit of research, my theory was debunked. However, the calm was welcome. I also noticed a good number of naval officers in the area and that was because Bremerton is a naval base. In terms of receptivity, the people of Bremerton were fairly receptive, and we were able to place four gift subscriptions here.
When we felt like we had exhausted Bremerton, Chris drove us to Port Orchard and we distributed copies there too. Port Orchard was a relatively smaller town but seemed less calm compared to Bremerton.
Here, we placed one gift subscription. When we were done, Chris drove us back to the Bremerton ferry dock and we headed home.
