Sun and Smiling Faces at U-District Farmers Market
By Izzy Marvin
Greetings! Today, Saturday July 20th, I attended the University District Farmers Market for the last time this summer!
Today was a gorgeous day full of sun and smiling faces. At the start a woman approached me and thoroughly looked at each edition of The Christian Science Monitor Weekly I had displayed. She looked at the covers as well as flipped through multiple editions. She said all of them were very interesting and ended up taking the “How to Talk About Climate Change” edition as well as the “Farmers Revolt”.
After this a little boy that had approached me at previous market days saw me and ran up to me and started talking to me about his cookies. This was the sweetest experience because he recognized me from talking to me before and was just telling me about his day. He was so precious. When his mom came up to grab him she also grabbed a sample copy!
A little later a man walking by was looking at my station so I offered him a sample copy. He said that he used to read The Monitor and he loved it. He ended up taking one sample copy and said he might sign up for a subscription after he reads it!
Near the end of the day a college age girl came up and grabbed a sample copy and just said “thank you” and had no further questions.
The last people to come up and grab sample copies were two people at once. One man came up and was deciding what sample copy he wanted and another man came up right after him and did the same thing. I was able to give out 7 sample copies and had a possible yes to a gift subscription! It was a great last day in University District!
