First Fruits #2: Auto Service Center
Day 2 of active outreach fruitage. Because yesterday our team found it pretty easy to give out sample copies of the CS Monitor but harder to offer a gift subscription, today we focused more on gift subscriptions.
We placed our first gift subscription at the VW auto service office on Roosevelt near NE 50th Street, which has a large waiting area with several coffee tables and lots of magazines. Perfect high-exposure place for a gift subscription!
We also have "maybes" for gift subscriptions to follow up on later at a hair salon, the YMCA, a Chiropractic office, and a youth social services drop-in center. We gave out sample copies to a tattoo parlor, the food bank, an Udon Noodles restaurant, a Teriyaki restaurant, a Taiwan ice cream shop, a music store, a scent shop, and several car repair shops, among other places.
We are learning what we do and don't need, how to offer gift subscriptions, how to plan walking routes, and best ways to keep track of where we've been and who we need to follow up with. Haley has been reading up on how to use the transit system and researching the commercial areas where our supporting churches are located. By the time our second full-time worker Izzy gets here next Thursday, we should be ready to ramp up the efficiency and effectiveness of our work.
Tomorrow we're going to Bothell.
