CtC ‘23 outreach begins in U-Distict
The “Compass The City” outreach project summer 2023 has officially started! The team this summer consist of; Cindy Safronoff, the project coordinator and boss, Izzy Marvin, a Principia College student intern, and Bella Sison, a Williams and Mary College outreach worker. After a meeting and discussion of the plan for the summer, the girls had their first day of outreach on May 17!
Bella & Izzy hit the streets as an outreach team. At the Third Church Reading Room in Seattle.
The girls hit their local living area, the University District. This area was split up into two days. Since this is Izzy’s second summer, she showed Bella the ropes. Bella was a very quick learner and made exceptional progress in understanding how the summer will be working and how to speak with people in businesses. Half of the university district was covered, the girls placed two gift subscriptions.
Alongside the subscriptions, the girls received three “maybes” that will require further follow ups and distributed roughly 150 sample copies of the Christian Science Monitor Weekly! The individuals in the University District were overall very receptive and grateful for sample copies and the free gift subscriptions.
The second day of outreach in the University District started off by visiting the University of Washington campus and distributing the Monitor in academic buildings as well as common areas. This was the first time both Bella and Izzy had been on campus, and they were amazed at the size as well as the architecture. There were no gift subscriptions passed out on the University of Washington campus, but there were many spots that held heavy traffic where sample copies of the Monitor were placed. Since the campus is so big, the girls were not able to cover the whole campus, but are very excited to go back and explore the area more.

After taking a visit to the University of Washington, Bella and Izzy hit the next half of the University District. There were many restaurants and shops along the main drag (University Way) that the girls had a lot of success in. A total of seven gift subscriptions were given out and over 150 Monitors were passed out as well. Seven gift subscriptions were placed.
The girls noticed that most restaurants were very receptive, and were really excited about receiving a free gift subscription.
Although this is the first time Bella and Izzy are working together, they make an exceptional team, and have been filled with light, positivity, and energy. They have great teamwork, and have designated specific roles to each of them in order to cover the most group possible! Overall summer is off to a very productive and fascinating start.
