A beautiful day on Bainbridge Island

By Bella Sison

On Monday, June 12, Izzy and I headed to Bainbridge Island for outreach. We got to take the ferry, which I had never done before! I was amazed at how big it was, and I spent the ride to the island running around between the different decks to admire the view.

Once we arrived on the island, we made our way to the local Christian Science Reading Room, where we met with Nancy Fuerst. She gave us a warm welcome to the area, and we had a lovely conversation about the Christian Science community on the island and the work we were doing. Nancy also provided us with a list of local businesses that might be interested in receiving a gift subscription for The Christian Science Monitor Weekly, which was quite helpful as a starting point when Izzy and I were planning our business visits!

As we left the reading room to start our outreach, we began with the strip of businesses nearby. We found the community to be a friendly mix of businesses, from carpet stores and boutiques to shops selling island souvenirs.

Several of these businesses accepted sample copies of the Monitor, and several of those that were given gift subscriptions last year wanted them renewed! As we continued on deeper into the island, we also encountered two new businesses that wanted gift subscriptions.

Our walk through town led us to First Church of Christ, Scientist, Bainbridge Island, which we were excited to find!

By then, it was time to head back, so we returned to the ferry dock, distributing a few more copies as we went. The ferry ride back was just as beautiful, and we had a great time enjoying the views. Between the exciting travel, the kind welcome from Nancy, the beautiful town, and the friendly business workers, we had a great day!
