A Sweet & Successful Outreach Day in Edmonds

By Frashia Njenga

On Thursday, July 17, I spent the day in Edmonds with Mary Shank, and it turned out to be such a wholesome and productive experience. We started our day at the local Christian Science Reading Room, where they had a super fun “Where’s Waldo?” contest going on. It was such a creative way to connect with the community, simple but interactive, and it really drew people in!

After that, we headed out for outreach with a stack of The Christian Science Monitor Weekly in hand. One of our stops was a local barber shop that already had a subscription, and the barber was excited to keep it going for the summer. It’s always nice when people are genuinely happy to stay connected with the Monitor, it shows the impact it’s having.

Of course, no outreach day is complete without a little treat, so we stopped for donuts and shared one, teamwork makes the treat work. From there, we kept going until we’d given out all 100 copies, which felt like such an accomplishment.

Mary dropped me off at the Lynnwood light rail station, and I took the train back home feeling grateful, inspired, and a little tired in the best way. Days like this remind me how rewarding outreach can be, not just for the people we meet, but for us too.
