200 Monitors distributed in Magnolia!
By Izzy Marvin
After a week of vacation and an amazing Independence Day holiday, Izzy got back to outreach work on Wednesday, July 5! Since Bella went home for the rest of the summer, Izzy will be working with local volunteers the rest of the summer. David Matthews, from Dallas, Texas, who was in Seattle on vacation and heard about the “Compass the City” outreach project, offered to assist in outreach work, and was super excited to do so.
Izzy and David worked in Magnolia! After giving David an overview of the project and the systems in place, they completed their daily inspiration and headed out. They first visited the Christian Science Reading Room in Magnolia and talked with Bob Merrihew, who was on duty.
After this visit the two got sushi for lunch and then started outreach work. Because David had a car, the two were able to cover more ground in Magnolia, which is mostly large-lot single family houses but also has a wide variety of commercial businesses in clusters. In all, six different commercial areas in Magnolia were visited.
Everyone in Magnolia was willing and excited to take sample copies. The two gave out about 200 copies of The Christian Science Monitor Weekly that day. That is double the number of Monitors that are usually passed out in a day! In addition to this, two gift subscriptions were placed.
The last place David and Izzy visited was the Ballard locks. This was a great location because David was new to the Seattle area and was amazed at the locks.
At the locks, Izzy decided to distribute a few more Monitors in this area and had an incredible experience. Izzy set a couple Monitors on the various benches, one being outside of the main visitor center building. After Izzy sat down a couple Monitors and the two started to walk away, Izzy noticed a man walk up to the Monitors right away. Izzy slowed down to watch what the man would do with the Monitors. He grabbed one and started to look through. Izzy headed over to the man and he said that he was curious about the Monitor and was excited to read it. He seemed very excited and grateful. This was amazing for David and Izzy to see, because they were able to share the Monitor with someone directly and were able to see the excitement that the man had.
David and Izzy had a great time working together. We are sending a huge thank you to David Matthew for his willingness and excitement to help Izzy during outreach work!
